We have an exciting opportunity for a compassionate and motivated Healthcare Assistant to join our Day Ward team in a busy, patient-focused hospital environment.
This is a full-time permanent position, working 37.5 hours per week on a rotating shift pattern, including long days (07:00 - 19:30) and nights (19:00 - 07:30).
You'll play a vital role supporting patients throughout their surgical journey, helping to deliver safe, high-quality care while ensuring patients feel informed, reassured and supported during their stay. Working alongside experienced nurses and multidisciplinary colleagues, this role offers variety, hands-on clinical experience and excellent development opportunities within a supportive team.
Main duties of the job
As our Healthcare Assistant, you will be:
- Welcoming and supporting patients on arrival to the ward
- Assisting patients with preparation for theatre procedures
- Supporting patients with personal care and activities of daily living
- Monitoring and recording observations including blood pressure, pulse, temperature and weight
- Undertaking clinical tasks such as ECGs, urine testing and phlebotomy (following competency training)
- Supporting infection prevention and maintaining a clean, safe ward environment
- Ensuring patient documentation and records are accurate and complete
- Managing patient belongings and medications safely
- Answering telephone enquiries professionally and directing information appropriately
- Working collaboratively with nurses, clinicians and the wider multidisciplinary team

Previous clinical skills such as phlebotomy, ECG recording or post-operative care are advantageous, although full training and support will be provided.
