Were looking for a compassionate and proactive Healthcare Assistant to join our friendly Day Ward team. This is a full-time position working 37.5 hours per week, with long shifts from 7:00am to 7:30pm as part of a rota.Youll play a vital role in supporting patients through their surgical journey, ensuring they feel safe, informed and cared for from admission through to discharge. Working alongside nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team, youll help deliver high-quality, patient-centred care in a fast-paced but supportive environment.
Main duties of the job
As our Healthcare Assistant, you will be:
- Welcoming patients to the ward and helping them feel comfortable and reassured
- Supporting patients to prepare for theatre, including assisting with changing and pre-operative checks
- Monitoring and recording observations such as blood pressure, pulse and temperature
- Assisting with activities of daily living, mobility and post-operative care
- Supporting infection prevention and maintaining a clean, safe ward environment
- Ensuring patient documentation is accurate and complete, including clinical outcomes and billing capture
- Answering telephone calls professionally and passing on messages appropriately
- Assisting with stock control, ordering supplies and general ward organisation
- Working closely with nurses and the wider team to ensure smooth patient flow

With your experience of caring for others (healthcare experience advantageous but not essential), you will also have:
- A caring, calm and professional approach
- Ability to communicate clearly with patients, relatives and colleagues
- Comfortable working in a busy environment and able to respond to changing priorities
- Good basic literacy and numeracy skills
- Willingness to work long shifts (7:00am 7:30pm) as part of a rota
- Additional administrative experience is beneficial
- A positive, flexible attitude and commitment to delivering high-quality care
