Youll be joining the team as a Senior Initial Assessment Practitioner, triaging patients who present at our modern, purpose built centre. Were looking for Nurses and Paramedics with the same passion for quality care that our team share, to build on the excellent reputation of the centre while constantly learning and developing.
As we are a 7 day service we are looking for Nurse or Paramedic Practitioners who can work a variety of shifts including evenings and weekends and our shifts range from 7.5 hours 12.5 hours and as we understand the need for flexible working are also open to discussing hours that suit you.
Main duties of the job
To provide safe and effective initial assessment/advice to patients, in line with the protocols and policies of the local service. The post holder will play a key role in ensuring patients are appropriately prioritised and directed to the most suitable care pathway, supporting safe and efficient patient flow within the service. In addition to undertaking comprehensive initial assessments, the Senior IA will continue to develop and demonstrate enhanced clinical skills relevant to the UTC environment, including triage-led discharge of minor illness and injury presentations, as well as practical competencies listed below: Senior IA role: Initial scope of practice in addition to core IA responsibilities:
- Support new/junior IA's developing core triage skills
- Support IA's with decision making in escalation
- Competent in tasks to support practitioners and the flow of patients through the UTC including:
- Plastering
- ECG's
- Wound care/reviews
- Burns management/reviews
- Suturing
- Triage-led discharge - following specific triage discharge protocols for presentations such as:
- Sore throat
- Minor ankle injuries
- Suspected toe fracture (excluding great toe/deformity)
- Minor head injury in children
- See & treat minor illnesses through strict protocols and using PGDs, including presentations such as:
- Sore throat
- Ear pain
- UTI
- Insect bites/stings
About us
- Registered Nurse or Paramedic with current registration with the NMC or HCPC.
- BSc (Hons) or equivalent qualification in Nursing or Paramedic Practice.
- Basic Life Support.
The role requires sound clinical judgement, effective communication, and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality, patient-centred care. The Senior IA will also contribute to service improvement, support junior colleagues, and promote a culture of continuous professional development within the team.
