Job summary

We're looking for a skilled and conscientious Handy Person to join our friendly team at Practice Plus Group Hospital, Shepton Mallet.

This is a part-time role, working 15 hours per week, days to be discussed at interview. You'll play an important role in ensuring our hospital continues to provide a clean, welcoming, and well-presented environment for our patients, visitors, and colleagues.

This is a hands-on role where your skills and attention to detail will make a real difference to the patient experience.

Main duties of the job

As our Handy Person, your work will focus on small works and decorative improvements, such as painting, decorating, and minor repairs. Your tasks will include:

  • Preparing surfaces, sanding, filling, and priming before decoration.
  • Applying paint, varnishes, and finishes to a high standard.
  • Repairing and making good minor damage to fixtures, fittings, and surfaces.
  • Installing and fixing items such as towel holders, disabled rails, shelves, and noticeboards.
  • Supporting with room setups, light storage, or moving furniture.
  • Assisting with basic gardening and external maintenance duties.
  • Working safely in a live hospital environment, always following Health & Safety procedures.

Youll work independently while being part of a supportive team, ensuring our hospital continues to look and feel welcoming for everyone.

Desirable (but not essential):

  • NVQ Level 2 or City & Guilds in Painting and Decorating (or equivalent).
  • Experience in healthcare or care-based environments.
  • Familiarity with Risk Assessments/Method Statements and safe working practices.
