We have an exciting opportunity for a Bank Mental Health Nurse to join our Inpatients team at HMP Thameside, a category B Prison located in Greenwich, South-East London. 

The Inpatient unit has 18 beds and provides 24-hour care to patients with mixture of mental and physical health needs.

In this role you'll be working with a multi-disciplinary team that will support you and help you succeed.

 Hours

 Monday to Sunday 

 Days: 07.00 - 19:30

 Nights: 19:00 - 07:30

 Salary

This is a bank role and  you'll receive an hourly rate of £26.05 (weekdays) & £28.12 (nights & weekends).

Main duties of the job

As a Bank Mental Health Nurse, your responsibilities will vary. You will

  • Work within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver a nurse led service and prevent hospital admissions.
  • Undertake medication rounds, dispense controlled medication, attend emergency response situations, assess patients, and undertake reception screening.
  • Use your skills and knowledge to deliver nurse led clinics to your patient group whilst being supported by a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Contribute to our nursing strategy and vision to; Provide outstanding evidence based care to our patients, seeking out, listening to and acting on their feedback, so that care is personalised and informed by what matters to them.
  • Deliver non-judgemental care that makes a real difference, as defined throughout our bespoke Health in Justice competency framework.

Requirements

  • NMC Registered Mental Health Nurse
  • Experience of the complexities of multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working
  • A non-judgmental and compassionate approach
  • Understanding of mental health policy including clinical governance and the quality and outcomes framework, along with national standards such as NICE

Although not essential ideal applicants would have experience in a hospital, community or prison environment.

As a Mental Health Nurse you will work within a multi-disciplinary team carrying out comprehensive assessments, initiating and reviewing care plans, and developing treatment options. You will undertake medication rounds, and assess and treat patients who may have undergone traumatic experiences and may be distressed. You will assess patients health needs using an evidence based framework and be able to risk assess use sound clinical knowledge, as well as Open, maintain, close and take part in reviews of individuals being managed under the Prison Suicide and Self Harm risk management system known as Assessment, Care in Custody and Teamwork (ACCT).

You will contribute to our nursing strategy and vision to;

Provide outstanding evidence based care to our patients, seeking out, listening to and acting on their feedback, so that care is personalised and informed by what matters to them. You will work with individuals providing advice, support and information and manage a case load of patients.

Deliver non-judgemental care that makes a real difference. You will monitor therapeutic responses to medication and potential side effects liaising with prescribers as required.

Inspire excellence by forging strong links with our partners and stakeholders and providing a service that people can trust, feel safe within, and feel proud of.

Promote best practice, clinical supervision, evidence based care and continuous quality improvement, embedding a culture of shared learning.

Share knowledge, skills and expertise to ensure safe care, building strong multi-disciplinary teams and supporting each other to do a great job.
