We have an exciting opportunity for a Patient Engagement Lead to join the team here at HMP Garth and HMP Wymott. This role covers both sites, with your time split equally between the two.

This is a brand new, and rare opportunity to engage with prisoners on the wings and the wider healthcare team, making a real difference to patients and the healthcare they receive. You can really make this role your own!   You will be leading on health promotion and engagement with patients, managing your own time and clinics, and being responsible for patient outreach.   Hours:   This position is full time working 37.5 hours per week, Monday - Friday between 8am - 4pm / 9am - 5pm.   Salary: This position is full time , youll receive an annual salary of £28,247 - £ 32,346 per annum - depending on experience.   How will we support you?

Main duties of the job

 As our new Patient Engagement Lead, your responsibilities will vary. Some of your duties will include:

  • Your main focus overall will be to encourage prisoners to engage with the healthcare team - encouraging them to attend appointments (and reduce non attendance), have vaccinations, tests etc
  • Be the first point of contact for complaints, escalating where necessary
  • Run patient focus groups, allowing patients to give feedback and raise concerns and listen to this to establish areas of improvement 
  • Speak to patients on a 1-1 basis to discuss complaints and feedback
  • Work with patients across all pathways - primary care, mental, substance misuse
  • You will be the champion for health promotion - liaising with prisoners and the wider healthcare team
  • Listening to patient feedback and concerns, addressing where necessary and looking for solutions

Our new Patient Engagement Lead will:
  • Be an excellent communicator - this really is key as you will be speaking to loots of different patients (age ranges, cultures etc) as well as healthcare staff onsite
  • Any clinical knowledge would be a bonus
  • Ideally have experience within a prison or secure setting
  • Have excellent time management skills, and be very organised 
  • Any complaints handling experience (from any industry) would be a bonus
