Due to the upcoming recategorisation to a Category B Remand Prison, we have an exciting opportunity for an Early Days in Custody Nurse to join our Primary Care team at HMP Brixton
HMP Brixton will be a Category B male prison from April 2025 housing men on remand. Our patients needs will vary greatly but there will be a focus on mental health, substance misuse and early days in custody
Hours
Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week.
Salary
This position is full time youll receive an annual salary up to £53,000 per annum - depending on experience.

Candidates are required to have a Legal right to work in the UK on a permanent basis and due to the nature of the role, offers of employment will be subject to additional vetting and security checks.
Main duties of the job
As an Early Days in Custody Nurse your responsibilities will vary. You will
- work in reception screening new arrivals to the prison.
- complete a detailed reception screen and assess risk on new patients.
- ascertain what needs that patient requires within those first 48 hours and make a referral to the EDIC referral Hub
- work in the First Night Centre and complete secondary health screening to establish any other needs that they patient may require

Qualifications required
- Registered Adult Nurse with current registration with NMC
- Demonstrate a passion for working in sexual health services
- Evidence of post registration CPD
- Able to work autonomously as a registered professional by on-going assessment, planning, management and evaluation of care following best practice guidance
Although not essential ideal applicants would have experience in a hospital, community or prison environment.
