We have an exciting opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join the Inpatient team at HMP Wakefield, a Category A male prison in Wakefield, West Yorkshire.

This is a crucial role within the healthcare team, making a real difference to patients, and delivering outstanding care on the inpatient wards.   We are close to the train station and are easily accessible by car, with free onsite parking.   Hours:   This is a full time role, working 37.5 hours per week. Shifts are on a rota basis including days, nights and weekends as we offer 24/7 healthcare. Shifts are 07:00 - 19:15 / 19:00 - 07:15.   Salary: This position is full time , and youll receive an annual salary of £24,669 - £28,690 per annum - depending on experience.   How will we support you?

Main duties of the job

As our new Healthcare Assistant, your responsibilities will vary. Some of your duties will include:

  • Work as part of the inpatients team, caring for patients who are too unwell to be on the wings, and those receiving palliative care
  • Carry out personal care, observations and assist the nurses on the ward
  • Provide outstanding quality based care to all patients 
  • Deliver personalised, non judgemental care, based on patient feedback 
  • Contribute to, and implement care packages, assist with health promotion, wellbeing and clinics
  • Support the nursing and pharmacy teams in primary care on the wings and healthcare centres

Our new Healthcare Assistant will:
  • Hold an NVQ Level 2 / 3 qualification in Health & Social Care, or equivalent
  • Have experience in a care setting, whether from a hospital, secure setting or within the community
  • Any inpatient experience would be a bonus, as would any primary care experience
  • Have a non-judgemental and compassionate approach
