We have a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Mental Health Support Worker to join the team at HMP Wealstun, a Category C male prison with an operational capacity of around 1000. The prison has good transport links, as well as a free onsite car park.

This is a brand new role, created due to growth within the mental health team as we expand our service to patients. This is an excellent opportunity for a current Senior, or experienced Mental Health Support Worker to take the next step in their development!    Hours:   This is a full time role, 37.5 hours per week, and you will work Monday - Friday, 08:00 - 16:00, with occasional weekends.    Salary: This position is full time , youll receive an annual salary up to £30,500 per annum - depending on experience.   How will we support you?

Main duties of the job

As our new Senior Mental Health Support Worker , your responsibilities will vary. You will:

  • Assist the mental health team in the delivery of immediate and, where appropriate, ongoing care for patients referred to the mental health team
  • Working with the nurses and nursing associates in mental health, assisting with bloods, observations etc
  • Help to run and promote mental health focussed patient groups, including patients with complex care needs
  • You will be expected to support people to access care and treatment appropriately within the prison setting, working independently with lone working at times. You will contribute to the positive and aspirational workings of the integrated mental health care team

Our new Senior Mental Health Support Worker Will Have:
  • NVQ level 2/3 or equivalent in Health and Social Care
  • An interest in mental health issues, with a desire to help patients with complex care needs
  • A knowledge of mental health issues
  • A flexible approach - you may be required to help out in other teams

Although not essential ideal applicants would have experience in a hospital, community or prison environment.
