We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Psychologist to join the Mental Health team at Derwentside IRC, a female Immigration Removal Centre near Consett, County Durham.

This is a brand new role, created due to the growth of the Psychology department - you can really make this role your own! You will be working with the onsite Psychologist, and close knit mental health team. We are a smaller centre, with capacity of 84.   This is a crucial role within the healthcare team, making a real difference to patients, and delivering outstanding care. You will be working closely with the onsite Psychologist, offering vital support to your patients.     Hours:   This is a full time role, 37.5 hours per week, working Monday to Friday 08:00 - 16:00.   Salary: This position is full time , youll receive an annual salary up to £30,660 per annum - depending on experience.   How will we support you?

Main duties of the job

As our new Assistant Psychologist, your responsibilities will vary. Some of your duties will include:

  • Working closely with the mental health team, including Psychologist, Assistant Psychologist, Mental Health Lead, Nurses and Psychiatrist
  • Support the psychological care of patients throughout their journey, from reception to release planning
  • Provide psychological assessment and interventions under the supervision of the qualified psychologist
  • Work with people with complex needs, which can present / lead to challenging situations or behaviours
  • Work within the Assessment Care in Custody Teamwork (ACCT) process, and contribute towards the Challenge, Support and Intervention Plan (CSIP)
  • Monitor and provide feedback on the patients' function and general mental health condition during the course of intervention, reporting and changes to the mental health team
  • Carry out clinically related admin tasks, including audits, statistics and research projects

Our new Assistant Psychologist will:
  • Hold a Degree in Psychology
  • Although not essential, a Masters Degree would be beneficial
  • Have experience within a paid Assistant Psychologist role, whether in a prison, community setting, psychiatric environment
  • Be experienced in facilitating patient therapeutic groups, and delivering psychological assessment, formulation and intervention in the structure of an evidence based therapeutic model (CBT / CFT / DBT)
