Effectively manage investigations carried out pre and post operatively that may impact on the patient pathway. You will work collaboratively with the clinical heads of department to continuously improve systems, structures and processes of care delivery in accordance with national and Practice Plus Groups priorities. Main duties of the job

Provide effective referral triage. Be responsible for the management of referrals where a clinical policy applies. Set up robust processes for the management of all funding applications and the management of the referrals Audit adherence to the clinical policies and work with the CCGs to provide evidence of this. Manage the awaiting referral triage work list and the second opinion work list within the agreed key performance indicators (KPIs). Accept or reject referrals . Train members of the Triage team to ensure they are competent and up-to-date in the referral triage procedures and protocols. Communicate effectively with the clinical Triage team and medical consultants. Liaise and communicate effectively with Referrers, Sponsors, Radiology departments, Patient Booking Team and other external stakeholders. Edit reasons for rejection on EPR as requested. Answer queries via the Patient advice line and signpost to relevant departments if required.

The clinical services include Outpatients, Day Surgery Unit, Inpatient Ward, Theatres, Endoscopy suite, Radiography, Physiotherapy and Pharmacy with care provided by a multidisciplinary team.

The ward is 30 bedded and staffed 24/7 by nurses, nurse associates and healthcare assistants. We are looking to recruit an experienced, dynamic and inspiring nurse leader as our inpatient Ward Manager. This is an exciting time to join PPG Plymouth as we are increasing our clinical activity and growing our teams. The inpatient ward primarily cares for our post operative arthroplasty patients with some general surgery and other orthopaedic surgery patients.

Essential

  • Level 1 Registered Nurse ENB 176/183 or equivalent post operative surgical care experience Substantial experience within an acute environment with recent experience in the recovery of patients following surgery Previous experience in pre-assessment Evidence of ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team Desire for self development Good understanding of Infection Control and Health & Safety issues relating to Theatre Ability to plan and prioritise own workload when under pressure Safe manual handling practices Ability to work flexibly within a changing environment Excellent written and verbal communication skills Competent to use varied IT systems Knowledge of when need to refer to anaesthetist. Perform ECGs and Venepuncture Excellent time management skills and able to work unsupervised.

Desirable

  • ALS and MEWS training
  • Teaching qualification ENB 998 or equivalent

Experience

Essential

  • Substantial experience within an acute environment with recent experience in the recovery of patients following surgery
  • Previous experience in pre-assessment
