Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-standard nursing care during endoscopic procedures (e.g. colonoscopy, gastroscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy)
  • Support patients through their procedure journey, ensuring dignity and comfort
  • Assist endoscopists during procedures, managing equipment and patient monitoring
  • Take an active role in infection prevention, equipment care, and recovery monitoring
  • Support and mentor junior staff and contribute to service improvement

Essential Requirements

  • Registered Nurse/Operating Department Practitioner (NMC/HCPC Registration required)
  • Minimum 6 months recent experience in endoscopy nursing
  • Proven ability to work in fast-paced procedural environment
  • Competent in admission, recovery, and assisting with procedures
  • Sound knowledge of JAG standards and clinical governance in endoscopy

Main duties of the job

Professional/Clinical

1. Provide the delivery of evidence based nursing care by providing expert clinical assessment, care planning, care delivery, care evaluation and clinical advice in accordance with NMC/HCPC Code of Professional Conduct.

To assist in the management and organisation of work in the clinical area.

To always act in a manner consistent with the NMC/HCPC Code of Professional Conduct carrying out his/her duties in accordance with BMSG policies and procedures.

Section 1 - Main Responsibilities

Professional/Clinical

1. Provide the delivery of evidence based nursing care by providing expert clinical assessment, care planning, care delivery, care evaluation and clinical advice in accordance with NMC/HCPC Code of Professional Conduct.

1. Develop expert clinical knowledge appropriate to area of responsibility.

4. Demonstrate knowledge of staff and resource management.

5. Communication of highly detailed information, which requires agreement, co-operation and prioritisation, within the multi-disciplinary team and external associated departments/hospitals.

6. Requirement to communicate to others where there may be some barriers to understanding.

7. The post holder will be developing physical skills hand and eye co-ordination.

8. To assist medical staff in endoscopy procedures after appropriate training

9. The post holder will be developing specialist knowledge and expertise in identifying potentially unsafe or damaged instruments and act accordingly.

10. The post holder will possess or be working towards gaining an in depth knowledge of protocols and procedures specific and local to practice..

Section 3 - Effort and Environment

1. Participate frequently in tasks requiring physical effort for short periods.

2. Deal with bodily fluids on a regular basis.

3. Frequently manage and participate in distressing situations.

4. Concentrate for long periods and respond to unpredictable patient and staff demands.

5. Maintain contemporaneous patient records at all times.

6. Required to stand in restricted positions for long periods of the working day.

7. Physically assist and supervise the positioning of patients prior and during procedures i.e.

  • Transfer of patients
  • Positioning of limbs to ensure optimum access and safety
