Job summary

To perform a number of biomedical activities including efficient processing of specimens for analysis and performance in area of work including the loading of specimens onto clinical analysers and machine maintenance. To undertake some basic investigations (tests) under the supervision of Associate Practitioners and Biomedical Scientists.

Main duties of the job

To work in all areas of Microbiology and Serology on a rotational basis, including data entry, automated and non-automated bacteriology and Serology.

  • Ability to be trained to perform basic Biomedical Investigations
  • To understand the principles underlying the analytical processes used in area of work so as to maintain their operation and quality of results.
  • A good working knowledge and practical application of the departments IT systems including software for word processing, spread sheets and data basis.

Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ3, or equivalent level of knowledge, a minimum of 3 GCSEs grades A*-C including English, maths and a science subject

Desirable

  • Science A Levels or a degree entry qualification
  • ECDL or equivalent knowledge
