Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic and responsible Manager to oversee and work alongside our busy and fast paced Specimen Reception teams. The teams are responsible for the acceptance and preparation process of patients samples. The Manager will provide cover at The Hub, Bentalls, Basildon as well as our teams at Southend Hospital and Basildon Hospital on a roster system.
The ideal candidate will be a competent individual with the ability to guide and motivate teams, ensuring that the departments are productive and well managed.
Attention to detail, excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential alongside the ability to demonstrate excellent organisational and leadership skills.
Main duties of the job
Organise and manage the Pathology Support Services function across Pathology First, and accountable for delivery of high-quality services against agreed quality standards and key performance indicators.
Manage on a day-to-day basis the Pathology Support Services Supervisors. To work independently and propose/implement changes to procedures for own area of work.
Perform all designated duties within Pathology in accordance with local working practices, to maintain high personal standards and conform to Health and Safety regulations.
About us
Pathology First delivers a seven day week service. This role will be 37.5 hours Monday to Sunday. The departments work from 0800 to 2000 and shifts are allocated between these hours. Further breakdown of this can be provided on request.

- To be responsible for staff management of department, including:
- Recruitment and induction of new staff
- Performance management, including appraisals and also management of conduct and performance issues
- Sickness absence management
- Ensuring compliance with professional training and statutory and mandatory training within department
- Authorisation of payroll and expenses
- Ensuring compliance with all relevant iPP policies and procedures
- To identify & implement any development needs, organising team resources to successfully achieve goals & objectives.

- Degree level qualification or equivalent and 4 GCSE at Grade A-C or equivalent, including Maths and English.
- Proven experience and knowledge of specimen receipt and preparation procedures for biomedical testing.
- High degree of accuracy & numeracy.
- Ability to communicate with a wide range of levels of staff within the laboratory and user organisations.
- Good developed interpersonal and team working abilities.
- Experience of managing a group of staff
- Attendance management skills.
- Good organisational skills with good time management skills.
- Ability to adapt efficiently to change.
- Able to plan activities within area of work
- High degree of dexterity required
- Able to concentrate for prolonged periods of time
