We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Occupational Health Physician to join our newly created Occupational Health service. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a dynamic, clinically governed service that supports the health and wellbeing of Primary Care staff in Cornwall.

About the Role

As an Occupational Health Physician, you will provide specialist clinical expertise to the organisation. You will manage a varied caseload, delivering evidence-based advice on fitness for work, sickness absence and workplace adjustments. Your role will include conducting management referral assessments and advise on adjustments at work.

You will work closely with managers, our HR team, and other healthcare professionals to support staff in returning to work, reduce sickness absence, and improve health outcomes for the Primary Care workforce. The position also involves contributing to policy development, clinical governance, and service improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert clinical advice on occupational health matters, including pre-employment assessments and fitness-to-work evaluations.
  • Deliver high-quality case management and participate in case conferences where required.
  • Support health surveillance programmes and statutory medicals in line with legislation and best practice.
  • Contribute to strategic planning for staff health, safety, and wellbeing.
  • Participate in teaching, mentoring, and clinical supervision within the Occupational Health team.
  • Ensure compliance with professional standards, confidentiality, and equality legislation.
  • Engage in audit, research, and continuous professional development activities.

About You

You will be a qualified medical practitioner with full registration and relevant postgraduate training in occupational health. Strong communication skills, sound clinical judgment, and the ability to work collaboratively are essential. Experience in sickness absence management, statutory medicals, and health surveillance is highly desirable.
