Clinical Nurse Specialist Oncology
Brighton Hospital | Nursing | Permanent contract | Full time| Includes weekend work
Up to £55,000 per annum depending on skills and experience
37.5 hours per week
Main duties of the job
Direct Patient Care:
Provides specialized nursing care to breast cancer patients, including assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating care throughout the cancer pathway.
Support and Education:
Offers emotional support, education, and information to patients and their families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, and side effect management.
Advocacy:
Acts as a patient advocate, ensuring their needs are met and they have access to appropriate resources.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration:
Works closely with the breast care team, including surgeons, oncologists, radiologists, and other healthcare professionals, to ensure coordinated and seamless care.
Consultant Clinics:
Support consultant led clinics, providing follow-up care, managing symptoms, and addressing patient concerns.
Service Development:
Participates in service development initiatives to improve breast cancer care and patient outcomes.
Education and Training:
Provides education and support to other healthcare professionals, including nurses and students.
Research and Audit:
May participate in research and audit activities to advance knowledge and improve practice.

A Breast Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) provides expert nursing care to patients with breast cancer, guiding them through diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up. They act as a key worker and advocate, offering support, education, and information, while also participating in service development and collaborating with the multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities:

Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Experience in patient education and support.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Willingness to participate in service development and research.
