Staff Nurse - Pre-Assessment

Main duties of the job
To assess plan, implement and evaluate individual programmes of patient care utilising research as appropriate within a team.
Manage own group of patients and deliver evidenced based nursing care to the highest possible standard.
Communicate with a wide range of individuals to meet individual patient needs.
Respond to and prioritise a wide range of demands and tasks in a rapidly changing environment, with the support of senior staff.
To participate in the setting and monitoring of quality standards in relation to clinical practice.
Perform routine tests such as Blood Pressure, Pulse Oximeter, Temperature, ECG, PEAK flow, order routine blood tests as per surgery and/or patient related risk factors, ASA scoring, Airway management checks (Mallampati score) etc.
Participate fully as a team member, sharing knowledge, information and supporting colleagues to promote a cohesive ward/departmental team
Work with other disciplines and professions to ensure total management of patient stay.
Liaise with other departments to ensure safe management during the patients stay and timely discharge is achieved.
Contribute to the development and maintenance of a positive learning environment for staff, patients and visitors.
To contribute to the provision of effective, appropriate and timely information and education to patients and relatives.
Maintain up to date accurate patient records, using appropriate documentation and information systems.

We have a new opportunity for a staff nurse to join our busy Pre-Operative Assessment department in our nurse led assessment clinics here at Nuffield Brentwood.
Running up to four busy clinics a day (Monday to Saturday) and work shift patterns of 08:00am - 18:00pm, four days a week, one Saturday clinic per month is to be expected.
As the first introduction to the hospital it is imperative that you have good communication skills and have a range of surgical knowledge. We pre-assess patients for a wide range of surgical procedures so good general nursing knowledge is essential.
You will be given plenty of support to further your assessment skills and specific procedure related skills during your induction period and our friendly and supportive team will help you adapt your current skillset.
Very strong IT skills are essential as all onward referrals are sent via Email to consultant surgeons, anaesthetists and specialists and more of our work is being transferred to IT systems.
We welcome candidates who have post registration experience with or without experience in pre-assessment. Surgical knowledge is preferable as is experience with a range of medications although further training will be given.
