Pharmacy Manager Ipswich Hospital | Pharmacy | Permanent contract | Full time Competitive depending on experience 37.5 hours per wee

Main duties of the job

Key Accountabilities: Provide leadership and advice on medicines management to ensure that processes across all clinical departments throughout the hospital are safe, cost effective and legal and are supported by up to date policies, procedures and guidelines. This will include chairing the Medicines Management Forum on a quarterly basis As the Antimicrobial Stewardship Lead, optimise the management of antimicrobials to minimise the occurrence of hospital acquired infections by ensuring pharmacy adherence to up to date policies, guidelines and systems of work. Undertake regular audit of this in conjunction with the IP nurse/nurse team Undertake a daily ward round reconciling medication for new inpatients; counselling patients; managing PODs and checking for relevant allergies, adverse drug reactions and contra-indications to treatment, ensuring all medicines prescribed are clinically appropriate in line with national and/or local policies and guidelines etc Assist in facilitating timely and informed discharge of patients returning to primary care by dispensing, accuracy checking and clinically checking TTOs, counselling patients prior to discharge and in facilitating timely and informed discharge of patients returning to primary care Lead on the implementation of medication safety alerts and drug recalls for the hospital working closely with the Matron and Quality Lead

  • Lead, manage and motivate the pharmacy team
  • Plan and co-ordinate the pharmacy department workload, allocating and providing sufficient resources and support, preparing and presenting business cases when required
  • Act as Medicines Management Lead and Medical Gas Lead for the hospital site
  • Ensure appropriate medicines optimisation through the safe and effective use of medicines throughout the hospital - procurement/supply, clinical, governance, medicines stock management
  • Lead the delivery of the medicines optimisation governance framework at site
  • Optimise medication usage, improving services and outcomes for beneficiaries, ensuring key stakeholder engagement and collaboration
  • Ensure compliance with policies and procedures, legal and regulatory medicines requirements (CQC, MHRA, GPhC etc) and adherence to national guidelines and standards (RPS Hospital Standards)
  • Deliver targets and agreed key performance indicators
  • Share lessons learnt across the wider pharmacy community in Nuffield Health to ensure our beneficiaries receive safe, effective, good quality care
  • Recognise concerns, provide early support to local teams and escalate where appropriate
  • Drive or support quality improvement, by providing input into strategic projects and workstreams
  • Identify and deliver medicines costs savings and service efficiencies, where possible within the hospital
  • Drive standardisation and support the development and implementation of new models of care and services
  • Ensure the agreed medicines audit framework is adhered to and any gaps or deficiencies addressed with an appropriate corrective action plan
  • Review and monitor medicines and incident reports, leading and contributing to investigations, identifying trends, reporting to the hospital Senior Leadership Team and escalating when necessary
    • As the Pharmacy Manager, you will be able to demonstrate:
  • Registration with the GPhC - either a pharmacist or pharmacy technician
  • Proven experience in the provision of clinical pharmacy services
  • Previous people management experience
  • Post graduate clinical pharmacy qualification or equivalent work experience is desirable
