Main duties of the job

You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team and you will be able to provide clinical leadership, act as a mentor and role model, manage complex patient care, and lead the unit in the absence of the Ward Manager. You will support individuals and teams to deliver safe, high quality and effective patient care that is responsive to the needs of our patients and their families. Along the way, you'll build strong relationships with consultants, hospital senior leaders, a wide range of healthcare professionals and, of course, patients.

Nuffield Health at St Bartholomew's Hospital: The City of London's only independent hospital, situated next to St Bartholomew's NHS hospital. This is our flagship centre for cardiac services and we provide a full range of surgical and medical services, including: orthopaedics, oncology, general surgery, gynaecology and urology services. As this is a new establishment, there is more than one position available. The hospital consists of:

  • 48 inpatient and day case bedrooms
  • 28 consultation rooms
  • Three digital operating theatres
  • Cardiac catheterisation lab
  • Specialist intensive care beds
  • Oncology day unit
  • Endoscopy and minor ops theatre

    Senior Staff Nurse Nuffield Health at St Bartholomew's Hospital | Permanent | Full time | Salary: up to £48,000 - additional shift enhancements and overtime uplifts for nights and weekends above 15% of the equivalent hourly rate. Bank holidays uplifts will be double time. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team and you will be able to provide clinical leadership, act as a mentor and role model, manage complex patient care, and lead the unit in the absence of the Ward Manager. You will support individuals and teams to deliver safe, high quality and effective patient care that is responsive to the needs of our patients and their families. Along the way, you'll build strong relationships with consultants, hospital senior leaders, a wide range of healthcare professionals and, of course, patients. Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, your specialist training should include a Critical Care postgraduate qualification and a minimum of ILS, ideally ALS and/or CALS. You will have extensive experience of managing level 2 and 3 patients, in particular for post Cardiac surgery or Intervention. You will have senior experience working in a Critical Care setting and must have evidence of Critical Care competencies at level 3 and either achieved or working towards level 4. You should hold a post a graduate critical care qualification. You will have experience being the Nurse in Charge of shifts, together with some supervision experience. It is essential to have clinical assessment skills and a physical examination course would be desirable. Together with the Unit Manager you'll be accountable for leading, motivating, educating and supervising the nursing team. Offering full time, part time and bank positions, applicants will be willing to work flexibly across different shift patterns covering a seven-day service.
