Job summary
The role of the Highly specialist Cardiac Physiologist is to undertake cardiology diagnostic testing mainly as part of the new Community Diagnostic Centre.
Main duties of the job
To ensure a high-quality patient experience.
To ensure a high standard of care
To ensure all cardiology patients who require testing have a Cardiac Physiologist in attendance.
Be RCCP or AHCS registered
BSE accredited
Technical duties
Participate in mainly performing transthoracic echocardiograms all in the requirements of BSE standards.
Other diagnostics required exercise testing, Ambulatory monitoring of ECGs & BP and pacemaker testing
All to include the following: -
Be fully competent at offering a full exercise testing service, whether Physiology or consultant lead
Be ILS trained or a minimum of BLS with AED annually.
Provide full manual BP monitoring during exercise
Interpret in full the ECG and be aware of indications & Contra indications
Be fully able to provide to BSE standard echocardiogram reports
Assist with Bubble, Stress echo or 3D studies
Operate Echopac reporting system and write echo reports

Operate Sentinel system to provide centralised site for Cardiology reports
Attach and instruct patients on the ambulatory BP monitor using
Download, interpret and provide reports for these BP tests
Attach and instruct patients on the ambulatory ECG monitors
Download in full all recording utilising Sentinel system in Lifescreen and Pathfinder analysis.
Provide all reports, on interpretation if a life-threatening arrhythmia occurs contact each Consultant directly.
Assure all consumables present for testing
Provide accurate charge sheets and patient lists.
Be fully aware of all cardiac equipment within the establishment which may be needed to assist our customers
Participate in Audit, research and development when required.
To be aware of all Policies appropriate to post
Assist and perform duties delegated by Hospital manager that are within capabilities

- Cardiac physiology qualification or equivalence (eg Clinical cardiology degree, PTP HCS etc)
- Strong IT skills, proficient in computer skills to include word, excel and outlook
- Minimum of 3 years post qualification cardiology experience
- Ability to prepare and present on topics in cardiology/ service delivery (Rare)
- Confident and reassuring demeanour
- Customer service skills
- Experience of full ambulatory analysis to support juniors.
Desirable
- Previous experience in using Spacelabs healthcare equipment
- Knowledge of BSE standards and up to date policies
- Experience of exercise testing
- Experience in triage processes
- SCST certificate or diploma
- Participation in pacing services
- Management /leadership qualification
- Immediate Life Support certificate training will be provided, and full compliance will be required as part of your probation period.
