Job summary
Working flexibly, as part of the hospitals clinical team, to carry out appropriate tasks involving direct patient care; supporting our team of Registered Nurses in providing and maintaining a care environment of the highest standard, and making a positive contribution to the excellence of care and maintenance of the care environment.
Main duties of the job
Under the direction and supervision of a trained nurse, carry out nursing procedures within the required competencies and to assist with the care and treatment of patients.
To verbally report to senior nursing staff regarding the patients in the clinics as necessary.
To ensure that patients are helped to retain their dignity and individuality.

Job responsibilities
To communicate positively and tactfully with patients, their relatives, carers, and visitors.
Assist the Consultant Endoscopist while under the guidance of a Registered Nurse.
Prepare the appropriate equipment prior to the start of a list, which may include wheelchairs, trolleys, endoscopy accessories and undertaking the appropriate checks to ensure the equipment is clean and used safely.
Assist the Endoscopy team in ensuring correct equipment and accessories are stocked in procedure rooms at the beginning of the list.
To help with admission and pre assessment of patients for endoscopy procedure.
Patient Monitoring - spend time with patients, ensuring they are continually monitored while in during procedure and recovery, recording changes in patient health and alerting the Endoscopy Nurse.
To assist and support patients as they move from one care setting to another, eg. department to diagnostic testing.
With appropriate training, perform venepuncture, blood pressure recording and simple dressings
To assist with patients basic care needs including maintaining personal hygiene, accessing, and using toilet facilities if required.
To contribute to the movement and treatment of patients to minimise discomfort and pain and provide rest.
To assist nursing staff by ensuring that the discharge of patients follows agreed standards and procedures.
To ensuring all checks and updates are carried out daily.
Involves working within the decontamination room reprocessing endoscopes with enhanced skills in this area.
Stocking and sharing the workload with the team.
To keep up to date with mandatory training.
To participate in monthly departmental audit.

- Evidence of good standard of general education
