Job summary

We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Band 5 Occupational Therapist to join our multidisciplinary team at the Swindon Intermediate Care Centre.

This rotational post offers the opportunity to provide high quality Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions across a variety of clinical settings. Current rotations include Forest Ward supporting stroke and general rehabilitation and Orchard Ward, focusing on general rehabilitation. Future rotations may also include the Integrated Neighbourhood Team, offering exposure to community based care.

In this role, you will support service users on their rehabilitation journey following illness or injury, to maximise independence and return to daily activities. You will work as an autonomous practitioner within a supportive supervisory structure, undertaking clinical duties, contributing to multidisciplinary discussions, and engaging in regular supervision.

Main duties of the job

As a Band 5 Occupational Therapist, you will be managing caseloads safely and delivering high quality care. This includes completing Occupational Therapy assessments, developing and implementing treatment plans, and reviewing interventions as required.

Effective communication with patients and carers is essential to gain consent, support accurate assessment, and maximise engagement in rehabilitation.

You will work collaboratively with colleagues and external agencies to support shared goals and safe discharge planning, maintaining, confidentiality at all times.

You will follow organisational guidelines, RCOT standards, and national frameworks, including contributing to CQC evidence collection.

Maintain accurate electronic patient records and must hold a valid driving licence with business use insurance for transporting equipment.

Ongoing professional development is expected, including maintaining a CPD portfolio and ensuring practice meets professional standards. You will support the supervision and training of rehabilitation support workers and occasionally assist with the supervision of Occupational Therapy students. Participation in the appraisal process and commitment to agreed development objectives is required.

Active participation in service training both attending and occasionally leading sessions is expected. You will also ensure the safe and appropriate prescription and use of equipment through effective teaching, supervision, and monitoring.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential

  • Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Membership of The Royal College of Occupational Therapists and/or evidence of other professional liability insurance to practice
  • Registered with HCPC
  • Evidence of continuing professional development(CPD)recorded in a portfolio, as recommended by HCPC.
  • To have gained effective experience in a range of practice areas from student placements and/or previous recent experience as a Band 5 Occupational Therapist
  • To demonstrate knowledge of principles and practices within Occupational Therapy to include knowledge of medical conditions prevalent in the elderly such as Parkinsons Disease, Stroke, MS, COPD, falls, orthopaedic conditions, general ageing and diabetes.
  • Good working knowledge of typical work- related systems, procedures, equipment and technology
  • Knowledge and understanding of the legislation that applies to care and health work
  • Car driver with access to vehicle, business Insurance and be able to travel Independently around the area.

Desirable

  • Previous recent experience as a Band 5 Occupational Therapist.
