Job summary
HCRG Care Group Wiltshire Children and Young Peoples emotional wellbeing service are currently seeking a passionate and experienced children and young person's counsellor to work in the team. You will provide support to children and young people who may be experiencing a range of issues, such as but not limited to anxiety, gender dysphoria, depression, family problems and self- harm. Support will be provided in person and/or remotely depending on the clients needs.
This role is part of the wider wellbeing team who offer early support such as group work and positive activities with the aim of preventing escalation to more specialist CAMHS services.
You will have an active caseload of children and young people within the getting help sphere of support and will use evidence-based therapeutic models. Low intensity, early interventions will be delivered in a range of settings and will include parental and family support.
Main duties of the job
- Hold a case load of clients, delivering outcome-based interventions to support their wellbing
- Communicate effectively with a wide variety of professionals relevant to the role
- To deliver therapeutic interventions to children and young people, working independently which may at times mean lone working
- To undertake professional initial assessments of young people and formulate a plan for their treatment within the guidelines of the service
- To provide ongoing (up to 10 weeks) and one-off counselling to young people
- To support alternatives to one-to-one therapeutic work i.e., group work
- To maintain confidential case notes and records in a timely manner ensuring that they are stored securely using the specified case management systems
- To support outcome focused reporting of interventions
- To develop links to other agencies and services and have a good understanding of local services for signposting and onward referrals
- To positively manage risk and recognise and pro-actively respond to child protection and safeguarding issues escalating and referring as required
- To undertake regular supervision in line with regulation guidance
