Job summary

HCRG Care Group are looking for a compassionate and understanding BANK Stories Officer.

This freelance role is about making sure that peoples voices, experiences, and stories are truly heard. They will spend time talking with colleagues, patients, families, and carers, collecting their experiences and finding meaningful ways to share these stories.

Every patient has a story worth hearing. Behind each appointment, treatment, or visit are experiences that can teach and inspire us.

Base and contract type: The role is a bank contract. It will be home based but will also require travel to services, as and when needed.

Main duties of the job

Main Responsibilities

  • Spend time listening to patients, families, and carers, helping them tell their stories in their own words.
  • Collect and share stories in a way that highlights the human impact.
  • Support patients who may not usually feel heard, making sure their voices are represented.
  • Work with staff and teams to make sure stories are shared.
  • Help organise and support story-sharing events, patient panels, or informal conversation groups both in person and virtually.
  • Make sure all stories are collected and shared respectfully, safely, and in line with confidentiality and safeguarding.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential

  • Passionate about making sure patient voices are heard and valued.
  • Good listener with empathy and patience.
  • Able to connect with people from all walks of life.
  • Comfortable writing up or sharing stories in clear, simple language.
  • Organised and able to manage time across flexible hours.
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Excellent organisational and communications skills.
  • Internal stakeholder management and networking experience.
  • Excellent IT skills in Word, Excel and PPT to an advance level, with additional knowledge of using marketing tools such as Wordpress, Hootsuite, Campaigner etc.

Desirable

  • Related degree or professional qualification.
  • An understanding of England's health and care system, particularly the role of Commissioners and the independent sector.
  • Experience of community engagement, volunteering, or patient involvement.
  • Confidence speaking to groups or presenting stories in meetings/events.

Other requirements:

You may be required to work at evenings and weekends where there is a business need to ask you to.
