Job summary

The community adult speech and language therapy service in Swindon is looking for an experienced, highly motivated administrator to join their friendly and dynamic team. This is an interesting and rewarding role which includes some direct contact with patients and their families as well as the administrative duties.

The role of a Speech and Language Therapy Business Support Assistant will carry out high quality and accurate administrative, data inputting and secretarial support to assist patient care, clinical governance and the clinical processes of the community adult speech and language therapy (SLT) team.

The SLT - Business Support Assistant will assist in some clinical duties when required, to include the implementation of treatment programmes for patients and the delivery of an AAC (Alternative and Augmentative Communication).

Main duties of the job

As part of the Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) team, this role supports smooth, compassionate care through close collaboration with healthcare professionals, carers, and families. Sensitivity and discretion are vital, especially when communicating with individuals with speech or language difficulties, always ensuring compliance with data protection guidelines.

Core duties include handling referrals, managing communications, and maintaining accurate records to help the service run smoothly. The role also involves organising meetings and training, preparing patient resources, and providing secretarial support to the SLT Manager, with confident use of Microsoft Office and Outlook.

Supporting clinical work is another key aspect assisting therapists during sessions, managing AAC equipment, coordinating with suppliers, and ensuring resources are clean, available, and functional. You'll also liaise with departments like Finance and Education & Training to help keep everything on track.

There's opportunity to contribute to service development too, from updating materials and managing shared mailboxes to helping with staff inductions and team communications. Participation in training, incident reporting, and outcome monitoring is also expected.

Holds NVQ Level 3 or equivalent training/experience, with a background in administrative roles, ideally within a healthcare setting.
