Job summary
As a Band 3 Healthcare Assistant, you will be an integral member of the multidisciplinary team on the Ward, providing high-quality support to the registered nurses in delivering care to a range of complex patients. You will work with increasing autonomy under the guidance of senior staff and contribute to the ongoing care and well-being of inpatients.
Your role will involve assisting in the care of patients with diverse and sometimes complex healthcare needs, including those with life-limiting conditions, patients at the end of life, and individuals requiring support to prevent unnecessary hospital admissions or enable a swift discharge. You will play a key part in ensuring these patients receive the appropriate care and support to meet their clinical needs, helping to manage their physical and emotional well-being.
In this role, you will take on a responsibilitycontributing to clinical tasks such as taking observations, assisting in the preparation and monitoring of treatment plans, and ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of patient care. You will be expected to show initiative, use your growing clinical knowledge, and support the Ward team in the day-to-day care of patients.
This is a dynamic and varied role where no two days are the same. As you work closely with patients and the multidisciplinary team, you will have the opportunity to develop your clinical skills, while making a tangible difference to the care and recovery of those who need it most.
Main duties of the job
Within this role you will:
- Communicate effectively with multi-disciplinary team, medical, clinical nursing colleagues and staff from other support departments
- Actively seekways to improve the quality of the service provided.
- Recognisewhen to refer to the trained nurse, contribute to the assessment and care planning process by communicating any concerns you may have or that are expressed by a patient or carer to the registered nurse.
- Report changes in patients conditions to qualified nurses and ensure it is documented. Ensure all interventions are appropriately recorded and care plans are maintained to required standards.
- Actively promote the health and wellbeing of patients attending the department.
- Remove dressings and applying simple dressings when trained and competent.
