Job summary

Are you a dedicated clinician with advanced practice skills and a passion for providing high-quality care? Join our fantasticmultidisciplinary team at Paulton Hospitals Minor Injuries Unit (MIU).

As part of our practitioner-led service, youll work alongside Nurses, Paramedics, and support staff to deliver minor injury and illness care to the local community. Collaborating with key partners such as the Royal United Hospital Bath (RUH), BaNES Enhanced Medical Services (BEMS), and HCRG Care Group, youll play a vital role in bridging the gap between primary and secondary care.

Whether youre an experienced Band 7 practitioner or a Band 6 developing your expertise, were committed to supporting your professional growth in this essential role.

This is a part-time role based at Paulton Memorial Hospital Minor Injuries Unit, where the service operates from 8am to 8pm, seven days a week.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of adults and children presenting with minor injuries or illnesses.
  • Prescribe, supply, and administer medications and treatments autonomously, adhering to agreed protocols.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests to support clinical decision-making.
  • Liaise with multi-professional teams, including GPs and secondary care providers, to deliver seamless and collaborative patient care.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and carers, ensuring empathy, clarity, and understanding in all interactions.
  • Support and supervise MIU staff, ensuring clinical competence and promoting a positive learning environment.
  • Manage day-to-day operations in the absence of the clinical lead, including overseeing safe staffing levels.
  • Engage in professional development, clinical audits, and research to maintain evidence-based practice and high-quality care standards.
  • Contribute to service improvement initiatives, ensuring compliance with Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards.
  • Ensure the safe handling of medicines and demonstrate flexibility in responding to the dynamic demands of the MIU.

The Ideal Candidate

Education & Qualifications:

  • Relevant degree qualification.
  • Current professional registration (e.g., Registered Health Care Professional, with or without additional qualification as a Registered Childrens Nurse).
  • Completed non-medical prescribing course.
  • Qualified Emergency Practitioner in illness and injury.
  • Relevant experience and qualifications in minor injuries or emergency care (e.g., APiCA).

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years post-registration experience in emergency or urgent care settings.
  • Experience in acute and/or community healthcare settings.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to assess, prioritise, and coordinate care for individuals with complex needs.
  • Strong decision-making, delegation, and autonomous working abilities.
  • Effective under pressure and able to meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to contribute to staff training and development.
  • Strong problem-solving and goal-setting skills.
