Job summary

We are on the lookout for a Mental Health Support Worker to join our Wellbeing Service to help offer practical and social support to promote wellbeing and recovery from mental health problems. You will represent the Mental Health and Wellbeing service and support people to access roles, relationships and activities in the community to help promote independence, choice and social inclusion.

You will support people to access services to meet their physical and mental health, social cultural and other needs but also support and assist those people to develop and maintain relationships. You will have the chance to build relationships with partner organisations to improve the delivery of mental health and wellbeing and be involved in the development of new mental health related projects.

This role is part-time, where you will work 25.5hours across the week over 3 days (specific days can be discussed at interview).There is no weekend or bank holiday work but travelling to and from service user homes and other meeting locations within the Bath and North East Somerset will be required.

You will be based in Bath Business Park in Peasedown St John however this is a hybrid model of working so there is flexibility to work from home.

Main duties of the job

  • You will work in collaboration with the people who access the service, devise, and develop a support plan ensuring the plan and the work undertaken is kept under regular review and outcome focussed with a view to discharging people and moving people on to other meaningful activities.
  • You will be expected to work a high percentage of their working day carrying out appointments in the community on a one-to-one basis throughout Bath and North East Somerset.
  • Identify the early signs of relapse by monitoring peoples progress and taking the appropriate action to support them.
  • Provide practical assistance to service users in various aspects of home management and independent living, including finance and budgeting, maintaining tenancies and health and safety.
  • Participate in the organising and delivery of mental health promotion activities to improve mental health literacy and understanding and reduce stigma and discrimination within the community.

We are looking for someone who has excellent listening skills and can communicate effectively both verbally and electronically. It is essential that you have at least 1-2 years experience in Mental Health support or other transferrable experience. Alongside this, the ideal candidate will also have the following:

  • NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent in Mental Health / Wellbeing / Adult Health & Social Care / Customer Service or other transferable qualification.
  • Experience of partnership working
  • Ability to use initiative and to prioritise a complex workload
  • Ability to work to deadlines
  • A demonstrable understanding of Mental Health and how it affects people and their friends and families
  • A demonstrable understanding of working in a community setting

Since travel is occasionally required, it is essential that you have a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
