Job summary

As aYouth Worker: Lifestyle Change Maker, you will be part of our Family Healthy Lifestyle Service that we have in our Family hubs located throughout Essex.

To deliver on our mission of equipping young people to resist unhealthy influences, while fostering youth-led campaigns, and advocating for policy change to combat the obesogenic environment.

The postholder will capitalise on the power of youth-led social movements to make a lasting impact on the health and well-being of the next generation using an approach rooted in trauma-informed practice, creating a safe and supportive environment.

The postholder will be responsible for inspiring social change, building resilience, launching youth-led campaigns, and equipping young people to resist unhealthy influences.

You will work closely with a team of motivated individuals to cultivate a youth-led social movement and advocate for policy changes.

Additionally, you will play a crucial role in developing leadership and organisational skills among the participants and collaborate with partners to achieve a wider impact.

Main duties of the job

  • Inspire Social Change and Resilience Against the Obesogenic Environment:
  • Develop and implement strategies to inspire young change makers to address the challenges posed by the obesogenic environment while employing trauma-informed practices.
  • Create a safe and supportive environment that fosters resilience among the participants, recognising the potential impact of trauma experiences.
  • Lead the planning and execution of youth-led campaigns aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles and raising awareness of the obesogenic environment, utilizing trauma-informed approaches.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to help young people resist unhealthy influences and make informed choices about their health, always with a focus on trauma-informed practice.
  • Deliver workshops, training sessions, and resources that empower participants with knowledge and skills, taking into account potential trauma triggers.
  • Foster a sense of unity and purpose among the young change makers, creating a strong youth-led social movement for positive change, with a deep commitment to trauma-informed leadership.
  • Collaborate with partners and stakeholders to advocate for policy changes that support healthier environments and communities, ensuring that trauma-informed principles are integrated into advocacy efforts.
  • Identify leadership potential among participants and provide opportunities for them to develop leadership and organizational skills, always with a trauma-informed perspective.

Essential

  • Education:Undergradate bachelor's degree in a related field, such as social work, youth development, public health, or education.
  • Passion:A genuine passion for promoting positive social change, improving youth health, and addressing health disparities.
  • Empathy:A deep understanding of the challenges and concerns faced by young people in today's society and a strong sense of empathy.
  • Adaptability:The ability to adapt to changing circumstances and the evolving needs of the program and its participants.
  • Resilience: Demonstrated personal resilience and the ability to instill resilience in young people facing societal health challenges.
  • Team Player: Strong team player with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, partners, and volunteers.
  • Youth Work: Proven experience in working with youth, including leading youth-led initiatives and campaigns.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated leadership experience in guiding and motivating young people to create positive social change.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with young people, team members, and external stakeholders.
  • Mentorship:Strong mentoring and coaching skills to empower young change makers and build their resilience.
  • Organisational: Exceptional organisational skills for program planning, event coordination, and leadership development activities.
  • Availability:Flexibility in working hours, as the role may involve evening and weekend activities.

Driving License:A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for travel to different locations, including schools and partner organiations.
