Job summary

Options for Care is looking to recruit an exceptional Specialty Doctor passionate about working with individuals with severe and enduring mental health diagnoses. The successful candidate will work with our existing mental health inpatient unit at Montague Court in Edgbaston, Birmingham.

Our two established hospitals, Montague Court and Dartmouth House, have successfully supported the needs of individuals with mental health diagnoses. We also have Orchard House, our recovery home, which provides a safe and supportive environment for individuals on their journey to mental health recovery. Furthermore, we eagerly anticipate the opening of Stanford Court, which is set to occur later this year.

Dartmouth House is a 16-bed male long-term complex care mental health inpatient unit based in Handsworth Wood, Birmingham.

Montague Court is an 18-bed male long-term complex care mental health inpatient unit based in Edgbaston, Birmingham.

Stanford Court will be a 23-bed male mental health inpatient unit based in Highgate, Birmingham. This will consist of 19-bed enhanced care service and four self-contained recovery flats to enable assessment of daily living skills in preparation for discharge.

Orchard House is an 8-bed residential step-down service based in Erdington, Birmingham, which allows extension of the long-term complex care pathway.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a dynamic individual with a genuine passion for working with people who have severe and enduring mental health diagnoses. You must be able to work core hours, across all sites whilst providing cover for the on-call duty rota.

In order to apply for the Specialty Doctor post, you will have substantial experience in psychiatry with adults of working age (in the region of two years or more) and must you have full General Medical Council registration.

You will work in collaboration with clinical teams and management to support our high-quality care provision, ensuring that care supports and reflects individuals mental health and physical health needs.

You will ensure care is culturally appropriate, and continuously evaluated to support compliance with professional guidance and current best practice. You will promote recovery principles with the aim of improving quality of life and achieving maximum independence with each service user.

The post holder will:

Facilitate, promote and supervise education, clinical practice and audit.

Contribute to Quality Governance and attend relevant clinical meetings.

Identify and contribute to others clinical training needs.

Ensure the promotion of issues of equality, diversity and rights in accordance with good practice and legislation.

Ensure effective communication pathways.

Clinical:

Assess all patients by completing a thorough history, mental state examination, case formulation and physical examination.

Responsible for the completion of necessary CPA, Managers Hearings and Mental Health Tribunal reports in conjunction with the Consultant Psychiatrist.

There will be occasions when it will be appropriate to liaise with referring Consultant Psychiatrists or other clinical colleagues.

Attend enhanced Care Program Approach meetings, clinical reviews, Managers Hearings, Mental Health Review Tribunals Hearings and other clinical meetings considered appropriate.

Facilitation of relevant clinical meetings.

In conjunction with the Consultant Psychiatrist, the post holder will be expected to prescribe and review medication and manage monitoring protocols.

Initiating treatment plans using the Care Program Approach within the MDT setting, ensuring effective use of resources and updating of plans within the agreed time limits.

Responsible for coordinating the smooth flow of care from admission to discharge.

Maintain and monitor standards of care in line with Options for Care principles and vision statement.

Ensure treatment is compliant with NICE and other guidelines, including monitoring of prescribed medications and audits of compliance.

Communication:

Liaise with all members of the MDT, GPs, relatives and other professional agencies/stakeholders.
