Sister, Dove House Hospice, Hull

Hours: 30 hours per week

Salary: £36,087 - £41,359 pro rata depending on experience

Are you able to support the Senior Sister in carrying out their role in overseeing the Inpatient unit and its nursing team?

Are you able to demonstrate clinical competence and expertise in palliative care and end of life care nursing, displaying a sound understanding of symptom management, acting as a resource for nursing colleagues?

Are you able to lead, plan, implement and evaluate patients care. Ensure all documentation completed by nurses is both accurate and legible in relation to patient care in line with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) guidelines and Dove House Hospice policies and procedures?

Main duties of the job

1.Provides clinical leadership and professional accountability.

2.Provide clinical leadership of the shift, supervision of staff and ensuring patients receive care in line with Dove House Hospice Values and is fundamental in supporting the Senior Sister in delivering high quality compassionate, palliative and end of life care.

3.Act as a role model for professional practice, quality improvement and person- centred care

4.Demonstrate clinical competence and expertise in palliative care and end of life care nursing, displaying a sound understanding of symptom management, acting as a clinical resource for nursing colleagues.

5.Oversee the care and support given to patients on the inpatient unit, appropriately utilising resources and delegating accordingly

6.Lead, plan implement and evaluate care

7.Ensure accurate and compliant documentation in line with NMC standards and hospice policies

Job description

Job responsibilities

1.Ensure that the holistic needs of all patients cared for by the team are met in a person-centred way. Work closely with the multi-disciplinary team to meet individual patient identified needs.

2.Communicate appropriately with all staff, liaise with other departments and agencies and attend departmental and inter-departmental meetings, as appropriate.

3.Ensure safe medicine management and adherence to relevant legislation and policies

4.Maintain accurate, timely and legally compliant clinical documentation.

5.Actively address any complaints or concerns raised from patients, visitors, staff and volunteers, escalating any concerns to the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.

6.Ensure compliance with NMC Code of Conduct, Hospice policies and regulatory standards

2.Provide visible, professional leadership to nursing and support staff, promoting a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement

3.Ensure effective communication and co-ordination of the delivery of nursing care, staff allocation and skill mix to maintain safe and high- quality care delivery.

4.Support education, competency development and induction of all new staff.

5.Support internal and external training as appropriate to the role and in conjunction with the Clinical Education Lead

6.Monitor, evaluate, and improve standards of care through audit, quality assurance activities, and service evaluation

7.In conjunction with the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse participate in the selection and recruitment of staff.

8.Undertake absence return to work interviews and attend and lead early-stage welfare meetings, liaising with People and Development Department.

9.Supervise, support, and appraise staff in line with hospice policies, promoting professional development and reflective practice
