Job summary

Are you able to work across the clinical areas of Inpatient Unit, Day Therapy Unit and any other clinical areas as necessary?

Are you able to support and assist qualified nursing staff in delivering high standards of person-centred care to patients and those important to them?

Are you able to work on an as and when required basis, to cover periods of sickness/annual leave?

Are you able to cover shifts at short notice?

If the answers are yes, then team Dove House is for you! The role is based at the hospice on Chamberlain Road. Free parking is available onsite.

Main duties of the job

To work across the clinical areas of Inpatient Unit, Day Therapy Unit and any other clinical areas as necessary.

Support and assist qualified nursing staff in delivering high standards of person-centred care to patients and those important to them.

Observe and report the patients general condition to the qualified nursing staff.

Have a basic understanding of the holistic needs of the patients and those important to them, and communicate with them as appropriate, referring to a qualified nurse when necessary.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Be aware of the patients care plans and report back to the nurse in charge regarding the care and support delivered to the patient for the duration of a shift.

When requested by the nurse in charge, take part in the nursing handover.

Communicate appropriately with patients, their carers and relatives and other visitors to the Hospice.

Communicate appropriately with all staff, liaising with other departments and attend departmental meetings as requested.

Under the direction of the nurse in charge, keep all patient and ward areas clean and tidy reporting any concerns to the nurse in charge.

Report any complaints or concerns raised by patients, families or visitors to the nurse in charge.

Participate in the orientation and induction of new paid and unpaid staff, students and visitors to the inpatient unit and Day therapy unit.

Under the direction of the nurse in charge, work alongside and support volunteers working on the inpatient unit and Day therapy unit.

Encourage and assist patients and relatives to complete person-centred information.

Referral to person centred information in the provision of care and Access & use person centred information to support the delivery of care and support to patients and those important to them

Attend statutory training as requested and identify training needs through participating in supervision and appraisal.

Undertake any other relevant duties as reasonably requested by the Senior Sister.
