Job summary

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Lead Sonographer to join our team. In this pivotal role, you will oversee the delivery of ultrasound services, provide clinical leadership, and support our dedicated staff across Cornwall and Devon.

Main duties of the job

The key responsibilities of this role will be to provide the following while working as part of an already established leadership and management team. There will be an opportunity to develop this role as we expand and explore new ways of working with our service partners.

Clinical Leadership

Lead and manage the ultrasound team, ensuring the delivery of high quality imaging services in line with best practices and national guidelines.

Patient Care

Ensure a patient-centred approach in all aspects of service delivery, maintaining high standards of care and communication.

Staff Support and Training: Mentor and support sonographers and other clinical staff, fostering a culture of continuous professional development.

Quality Assurance

Oversee quality control processes, including regular audits and adherence to clinical governance standards.

Service Development

Collaborate with the management team to develop and implement strategies for service improvement and expansion.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Postgraduate qualification in Medical Ultrasound - PgDip or equivalent
  • Registration with a relevant professional body e.g. HCPC
  • Extensive experience in a range of ultrasound examinations, including obstetric, gynaecological, and general medical imaging.
  • Proven leadership experience within a clinical setting
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Basic understanding of reporting systems and the technical operations around integrated systems

Desirable

  • Experience working with NHS protocols
  • Experience in service development and implementation

  • Experience in building working relationships with a range of stakeholders
