As a Hybrid Resident Medical Officer, you'll play a crucial role providing on call and day shift cover for Cygnet Hospital Colchester.

Cygnet Hospital Colchester in a 59 bed service providing a range of intensive support and rehabilitation services for men with learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders or mental health needs.

This role will be based on Highwoods Ward, our 19 bedded male acute service. The service provides a safe and stabilising environment for men who are experiencing an acute episode of mental illness and require an emergency admission.

The ethos of our service is about assessing and treating people in the least restrictive environment and planning for discharge in a robust and timely fashion. With a focus on stabilisation, we support individuals to manage their mental health, reinforce daily living skills and prepare for independent life back in the community.

You'll be covering a mix of out of hours on call (5pm - 9am & weekends) and day shifts (9am-5pm) on the acute ward, with access to Consultant advice.

We are looking for someone who is...

  • Fully GMC registered & MBBS (or equivalent) qualified

  • An excellent clinical decision maker, with sound judgement, the ability to manage risk & know when to ask for help

  • Experienced in Psychiatry

  • Able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team

  • A first-rate communicator who can interview, assess & treat patients & write clear, comprehensive medical notes

  • Committed to continued professional development
