Job summary

We are currently recruiting for an Experienced MHA Administrator to join our team at Sedgley Lodge & House, which offers a range of secure mental health services for men in a purpose-built therapeutic environment. You will work 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm (site-based)  Experienced Mental Health Act Administrator with a minimum of 2 years of experience. Cygnet Sedgley House and Cygnet Sedgley Lodge offer a 42-bed high-support inpatient rehabilitation (level 2) service for men with complex needs. The service is designed to provide an environment that promotes mental health recovery by focusing on space, personal privacy, and dignity. Cygnet Sedgley House is a 20-bed service providing a full multi-disciplinary team (MDT) including occupational therapy, psychology and psychiatry, with support from registered nurses and support workers. We can provide support for those in the early stages of their rehabilitation journey, including one-to-one support where needed. We offer activities and therapies on-site, as well as accessing community resources. When the time is right, individuals can move to Cygnet Sedgley Lodge, a 14-bed service that provides increased independence and a more outward-looking community-based programme. This part of the service also benefits from a full MDT, including their own Consultant Psychiatrist.

Your day-to-day:

  • To ensure that all procedures relative to the Mental Health Act and associated legislation are adhered to.
  • Ensure the legal detention of patients.
  • Ensure adequate records for detained patients are maintained.
  • Ensure adequate and safe storage of documentation.
  • Receive section papers during working hours.
  • Arrange correction of errors relating to detention of patients to meet all legal requirements.
  • Ensure patient and nearest relatives are aware of individual rights and power of detention in force and assist as required with exercising these rights.
  • Ensure an up-to-date list of mental health solicitors is available to patients and that patients are represented at hearings or appeals where possible or appropriate.

We are looking for people who have:

  • Experienced Mental Health Act Administrator with a minimum of 2 years of experience.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams.
  • Educated to GCSE level (or equivalent) with qualifications in English and Maths
  • Exceptional organisational skills
  • Experience of working in a Healthcare environment alongside Medical Practitioners
  • Knowledge of Mental Health Act 1983 (MHA 2007)
  • Knowledge of compliance and auditing systems required by regulatory bodies (CQC)
  • Experience in taking minutes during meetings
