Job description

Job responsibilities

Are you a confident Band 5 or Band 6 who would like to explore a rewarding managerial and clinical challenge in Neuropsychiatry?

About Us

Cygnetwas established in 1988 as an independent provider of health and social care services in England, Scotland and Wales.

Your Role

Band 6: Senior/Specialist Occupational Therapist

Salary: From £39,015 £46,981 per annum (DOE)

Site: Cygnet Brunel, Bristol

Hours: 40 hours/week (Full Time)

Contract: Fixed term maternity cover (up to 10 months)

Service Line:Neuropsychiatry

We are looking for an experienced Band 5 Occupational Therapist or Band 6 Occupational Therapist who is looking for a new clinical opportunity to work in a specialist neuropsychiatric service.

Summary of the site:Cygnet Brunel in Bristol offers an extensive Neuropsychiatric treatment, care and rehabilitation model which is unique in its ability to provide a dedicated pathway to meet the complex needs of the men they support.

The individually designed wards facilitate a clear and distinctive care and treatment pathway for those affected by an Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) or Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI); where behaviours that challenge are the overarching impairment to recovery and rehabilitation.

Cygnet Brunel has 32 beds, which are spread across 4 wards. Cygnet Brunel supports the Level 1 Neuropsychiatric Rehabilitation pathway for the South West and as such accommodates Level 1 & 2a patients across all of the wards; focusing on the service users individual needs in order to prioritize the ward location.

  • Ketch Ward creates a goal focussed Neuropsychiatric rehabilitation pathway. The therapeutic rich environment engages services users and offers them the opportunity to maximise their independence, providing post-acute specialist rehabilitation beds for NHS England.
  • Clipper Ward offers a safe and therapeutic setting for those affected by an acquired brain injury whose nursing and care dependency requires more input from our nursing team. This may mean that service users have a PEG or RIG, catheter or complex physical health support requirements. Those service users affected by neurodegenerative conditions who require maintenance therapy and positive behavioural support to help maintain function and manage disease progression are also supported on this ward. Quality of life is key to the wards ethos.
  • Pilot Ward supports individuals with a co-morbid diagnosis of ABI and Organic Behaviour Disorders. Bespoke treatment pathways help to manage impairments generated by both ABI and Mental Health conditions, ensuring symptom regulation is maintained for optimum recovery and quality of life.
  • Yawl offers a slower stream Neuropsychiatric Rehabilitation pathway for men affected by an ABI. The ward offers service users an opportunity to maximise their skills through a slower stream approach enabling them to transfer their skills into the community and day to day living prior to their successful discharge.

The neuropsychiatric MDT consists of Psychiatry, Speciality Doctors, Psychology, Speech and language therapy, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, and Dietetics as well as a diverse and experienced Nursing team.

The Occupational Therapy Team consists of a Head Occupational Therapist, a Band 6 Occupational Therapist and 2 Occupational Therapy Assistants.

Our interventions are matched according to individual needs. Our team will always adapt their engagement technique and personnel delivering specific interventions to maximise engagement and ensure that progress is always being made with the service users in our care. Our occupational therapy pathway has different stages of treatment and the interventions offered will change as our service users progress through each stage of this pathway.

Occupational Therapy Directorate

Under the leadership of our Occupational Therapy Directors we support over 150 Occupational Therapists and over 300 OT support staff. Working together as a large team we provide support to each other across the group, with the opportunity to be part of specialist interest groups & become involved in service development.

Every service line has a clinical lead occupational therapist to lead and develop evidence based practice and agreed occupational therapy pathway.

We ensure our occupational therapists have a voice through participating in service model development, utilising the expertise and support of our clinical lead occupational therapists.
