Treetops Ward is one of our 16 bed male emergency acute inpatient services. The ward provides a safe and stabilising environment for individuals who are experiencing an acute episode of mental illness and require an emergency admission. The service is now open and accepting referrals.

Main duties of the job

At Cygnet Healthcare, we have a strong occupational focus through support and direction from Clinical Leads and our Occupational Therapy Directors. We use evidence-based practice within each of our service lines, as defined by our clinical steering groups, of which Occupational Therapists play a key role. As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will provide assessment and treatment of occupational dysfunction under the supervision of a more senior Occupational Therapist. An integral part of this role will be supervising others, with a focus on supporting student education within the team. This role includes opportunities for learning, development and research, supported by a robust appraisal and supervision structure based on RCOTs Career Development Framework.

Treetops Ward Male Acute Mental Health service

Treetops Ward is one of our 16 bed male emergency acute inpatient services. The ward provides a safe and stabilising environment for individuals who are experiencing an acute episode of mental illness and require an emergency admission.

The ethos of the service is about assessing and treating individuals in the least restrictive environment and planning for discharge in a robust and timely fashion. With a focus on stabilisation, we support individuals to manage their mental health, reinforce daily living skills and prepare for independent life back in the community.

Our team work closely and collaboratively with service users, their families and the referrer to provide a seamless pathway from referral to discharge. Our approach is recovery focused and supported by a comprehensive multi-disciplinary team, contributing to shorter lengths of stay.

Responsible to:Service Manager for Line management supervision & Occupational Therapist (Band 6 or above) for professional supervision.

Hours:40 hours per week (5 days)

Occupational Therapy Directorate

Under the leadership of our occupational therapy directors we support over 150 Occupational Therapists. Working together as a large team we provide support to each other across the group, with the opportunity to be part of specialist interest groups & become involved in service development.

Every service line has a clinical lead occupational therapist to lead and develop evidence based practice and agreed occupational therapy pathway.

We ensure our occupational therapists have a voice through participating in service model development, utilising the expertise and support of our clinical lead occupational therapists.

Occupational Therapy Preceptorship & Induction:

We offer a 12 month Occupational Therapy Preceptorship for all newly qualified Occupational Therapists to support and consolidate core Occupational Therapy skills.

We also offer a sensory integration preceptorship for those with an interest in sensory integration.

All new starters will complete an induction which incorporates service line Occupational Therapy processes as inhouse orientation.
