Main duties of the job

As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will provide assessment and treatment of occupational dysfunction under the supervision of a more senior Occupational Therapist. An integral part of this role will be supervising others, with a focus on supporting student education within the team.

Service Line: Mental Health Adults - PICU, Acute and Forensic

Post: (Band 5) Occupational Therapist

  • 14 service users
  • Supervision of an OTA

Responsible to: Head of OT and Regional Lead OT

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Location: Cygnet Hospital Stevenage, Gravely Road, Stevenage, Herts SG1 4YS

We provide a monthly Band 5 development programme, a 12-month OT preceptorship supported by your supervisor with peer support from other Band 5s too, and weekly 1:1s with your supervisor to help you feel empowered and supported in your role.

The hospital operates as a medium secure unit and runs PICU/Acute service line runs within this framework. Our site has a wide range of therapeutic resources where service users can develop their daily living skills in a bespoke environment. This includes a Recovery College, ADL kitchen, a large gym, therapeutic garden, football pitch, music production studio and many other therapeutic spaces. Service users are encouraged to extend their community skills with easy transport links from the hospital, and a thriving local town centre.

The Multi-disciplinary team (MDT) consists of nurses, psychologists, psychology assistants, occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants (OTAs), social workers and psychiatrists as well as 24/7 support from the nursing team and support workers. You will be an integral member of the ward MDT and OT department whilst working autonomously with the support of an OTA.

Occupational Therapy Directorate

Under the leadership of our occupational therapy directors we support over 150 Occupational Therapists and over 300 OT support staff. Working together as a large team we provide support to each other across the group, with the opportunity to be part of specialist interest groups & become involved in service development.

Every service line has a clinical lead occupational therapist to lead and develop evidence based practice and agreed occupational therapy pathway.

We ensure our occupational therapy team members have a voice through participating in service model development, utilising the expertise and support of our clinical lead occupational therapists.
