Main duties of the job

At Cygnet Healthcare, we have a strong occupational focus through support and direction from Clinical Leads and our Occupational Therapy Directors.

We use evidence-based practice within each of our service lines, as defined by our clinical steering groups, of which Occupational Therapists play a key role.

As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will provide assessment and treatment of occupational dysfunction under the supervision of a more senior Occupational Therapist.

An integral part of this role will be supervising others, with a focus on supporting student education within the team.

This role includes opportunities for learning, development and research, supported by a robust appraisal and supervision structure based on RCOTs Career Development Framework.

Hours:Monday to Friday, between 9:00am and 5:00pm

Summary of the site:

Hooper WardisCygnet Hospital Becktons13 bed acute mental health service for women. The service provides a safe and stabilising environment for individuals who are experiencing an acute episode of mental illness and require an emergency admission.The ethos of this service is about assessing and treating service users in the least restrictive environment and planning for discharge in a robust and timely fashion.

With a focus on stabilisation, we will support service users to manage their mental health, reinforce daily living skills and prepare for independent life back in the community.

Our multidisciplinary team works closely and collaboratively with service users, their families and the referrer to provide a seamless pathway from referral to discharge. Our approach is recovery focused and supported by a comprehensive multi-disciplinary team, contributing to shorter lengths of stay.

As an Occupational Therapist, you will provide direct clinical care which will encompass OT assessments, treatment and management of individuals / interventions and support for individuals within the service. In this role you will assess, implement and develop an OT treatment programme according to an individuals identified needs. This will be based upon findings from assessments including associated risks, in order to develop treatment plans accordingly within the multidisciplinary team.

Cygnet Hospital Becktonhas four occupational therapists and five occupational therapist. We work together to lead the provision of robust therapy and education programmes and contribute to wider service improvement initiative to drive high quality care.

The post holder will be the Occupational Therapist for Hooper Ward (female acute ward). This role includes the supervision of the Occupational Therapy Assistant on the ward.

Occupational Therapy Directorate

Under the leadership of our occupational therapy directors we support over 150 Occupational Therapists and over 300 OT support staff. Working together as a large team we provide support to each other across the group, with the opportunity to be part of specialist interest groups & become involved in service development.

Every service line has a clinical lead occupational therapist to lead and develop evidence based practice and agreed occupational therapy pathway.

We ensure our occupational therapy team members have a voice through participating in service model development, utilising the expertise and support of our clinical lead occupational therapists.

Occupational Therapy Preceptorship & Induction:

We understand the pandemic has brought with it challenging times, and we recognise this may have had an impact on some of your placement experiences. We offer an Occupational Therapy 12 month preceptorship programme to support and consolidate core Occupational Therapy Skills.
