Job summary

We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist to provide maternity cover to Cygnet Grange & Lodge. Providing 16 beds for Neuropsychiatric rehabilitation, care and treatment for those affected by acquired brain injuries, Cygnet Lodge and Cygnet Grange provide a safe and secure place to aid recovery as well as offering those diagnosed with a progressive neurological disease, like Huntingtons Disease, a caring and long-term placement to support and help manage the progression of their symptoms.

Main duties of the job

As a speech and language therapist you will be working directly with up to 16 men with acquired neurological brain injury or progressive neurological diseases with comorbid mental health needs. Individuals may be detained under the Mental Health Act and are likely to have a diagnosis of an established or suspected ABI, Functional Neurological Disorder or neurodegenerative conditions, including Korsakoff Syndrome or Huntingtons disease. You will work to assess their speech, communication and language needs (SCLN) in all environments. You will also assess and manage dysphagia, including making recommendations for texture-modified diets where required. As part of an on-site multi-disciplinary team, you will also work with all staff across the 2 hospitals to support the implementation of a therapeutic and neuropsychiatric approach. You will work in line with the SLT pathway for neuropsychiatric services in to the hospital and directly report progress through monthly supervision to your SLT clinical supervisor and unit manager. You will be part of a companywide SLT service and contribute to the service development initiatives.

We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist with:

  • A HCPC (Health Care Professions Council) registered Speech and Language Therapist
  • Membership with the RCSLT (Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists)
  • Experience within a Band 6/7 Speech and Language Therapist role
  • Experience in the field of brain injuries (ABI) and the relevant SLT processes/interventions
  • Emphasis on person-centred planning and goal-orientated care
  • Qualification in Dysphagia management essential
  • Evidence of being a strong team player with a genuine desire to help others
  • Excellent communication and organisation skills
  • Enthusiasm, motivation and passion

The successful candidate will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS and reference check and an offer of employment will be subject to successful clearance.
