Job summary

Base: Cygnet Hospital Bierley - Bierley Lane, Bradford, BD4 6AD Cygnet Hospital Bierley provides a range of acute and low secure mental health services for men and women. Main duties of the job

At Cygnet Healthcare, we have a strong occupational focus through support and direction from Clinical Leads and our Occupational Therapy Directors. We use evidence-based practice within each of our service lines, as defined by our clinical steering groups, of which Occupational Therapists play a key role. As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will work as an autonomous clinician, providing specialist assessment and treatment of occupational dysfunction. You will lead the occupational therapy department, and be part of the senior management team. An integral part of this role will be supporting student education within the team. This role includes opportunities for learning, development and research, supported by a robust appraisal and supervision structure based on RCOTs Career Development Framework.

Summary of the site

Cygnet Hospital Bierley provides a range of acute and low secure mental health services for men and women. The hospital is set across four wards offering single-sex male and female specialist mental health services. All our services are provided under the umbrella of a recovery orientated approach and are reviewed through the CPA framework.

Cygnet Hospital Bierley has a true focus on the service user and the over-riding aim of providing the best quality treatment and care possible.

The multi-disciplinary teams at the hospital work with service users to help people with acute, medium and long-term psychotic illnesses and challenging behaviour regain their independence and move from low secure facilities, to open acute and intensive community rehabilitation.

The hospital itself is not far from the M62 and close to Bradford. As a purpose-built building, there are a range of therapeutic and social spaces including a gym, activities of daily living (ADL) kitchen, sensory room, social hub and outdoor enclosed courtyards. All service users have their own ensuite bedroom.

Clinical:You and your team will be responsible for the assessment and treatment of occupational dysfunction for Blossom Ward (15 bed Acute Service for Women). You will work with 3 other Occupational Therapists (one for each ward) and x2 Occupational Therapy Assistants for the services. You will work with a full multidisciplinary team (on site) in a coordinated way to support each service user develop their skills and move through our clinical model of care from admission to discharge.

Leadership:You would report directly to the Regional Lead Occupational Therapist. You would also hold leadership and management responsibilities of the Occupational Therapy service, providing supervision for the Occupational Therapist and the Occupational Therapy Assistant/s. You will be required to share a leadership responsibility and consistently contribute to the site wide Occupational Therapy provision.

Occupational Therapy Directorate

We provide a significant range of in house training for all of our Occupational therapists. Opportunities include training in MOHOST, Case Formulation, Sensory Modulation and Recovery Through Activity. We also have an in house Sensory Integration Preceptorship programme. We also offer Leadership and Management apprenticeship pathways for career development.

Under the leadership of our Occupational Therapy Directors we support over 170 Occupational Therapists. Working together as a large team we provide support to each other across the group, with the opportunity to be part of specialist interest groups & become involved in service development and practice development.

Every service line has a clinical lead occupational therapist to lead and develop evidence based practice and agreed occupational therapy pathway within a specialist field. Through this network across all Cygnet Hospitals nationally, we ensure our occupational therapists have a voice within the company.
