Summary:

We are looking for a first contact practitioner to provide specialist MSK physiotherapy assessment and treatment in a mixture of clinic-based settings, working as an autonomous practitioner and working in GP surgeries/primary care networks as a member of a multi-disciplinary team. You will also assist with service development and training programs.

Position: First Contact PractitionerLocation: Various Locations in KENT & LONDONType: Full-Time 37.5 /40 hrs(Negotiable hours)Salary: £28,410 - £38,375 FTE (Dependent on Experience)

Main duties of the job

Key Objectives:

  • Achieve the best outcome for each patient working to the best of your ability.
  • To ensure a biopsychosocial approach is taken and adapted as appropriate to take account of factors such as patients religious, cognitive, and social difficulties or beliefs.
  • Referral to other practitioners will be undertaken where needed, complex cases or out of scope.
  • Prioritise own workload ensuring good time management, completion of required documents, and case management.
  • Maintenance of own diary of TM3/SystmOne/EMIS/Ask my GP, utilizing admin and line manager support as required to implement changes.
  • Ability to formulate a diagnosis, and be confident in the provision of advice, prognosis, and treatment plan. Enabling patient-led treatment and informed consent.
  • Promotion of the physiotherapy profession, adhering to the code of conduct always.
  • Maintain knowledge of process and procedures for each referring party, and gain clarification when this is not clear.

Utilise support from a senior physiotherapist where required, recognizing own limitations.

Maintain physiotherapy records in line with HCPC regulations.

Timely completion of medical reports when required.

Participate in training to ensure CPD is maintained in line with professional standards.

Excellent communication with staff, patients, and relatives.

To be involved in the development of new FCP clinics and services.

First Contact Clinics:

  • Assess patients, without prior contact with their GP, to establish a rapid and accurate diagnosis and management plan either virtually and/or face-to-face.
  • Deliver effective rehabilitation, activity plans, and programs face-to-face and virtually.
  • Progress and request investigations to facilitate diagnosis and potential next steps.
  • To understand the information limitations derived from investigations and the relative sensitivity and specificity of tests for example x-rays, blood test, MRI scans.
  • Ability to interpret results from investigations, apply context to the patient, and act on results as an autonomous practitioner or in conjunction with appropriate discussion with the wider MDT.
  • Offers a range of clinical skills which may include Non-Medical Prescribing (NMP) and injections.
