Job summary

This exciting role - Part-Time Offender Health Podiatrist supports the delivery of MSK assessment mainly lower limbs and feet. They will be signposting patients within primary care setting, working closely with our partners, and will be based at HMP Bronzefield one day a week.

If you are an experienced podiatrist, who is able to work collaboratively, is keen to develop leadership skills and motivated to develop into a Offender Health Podiatry role, this could be the post for you.

Main duties of the job

You will be required to have excellent assessment, diagnostic and clinical skills to deliver a range of specialist podiatry clinics in MSK Podiatry and Diabetes. The service works closely with offender health primary care team, and local integrated teams. You should be self-motivated with excellent communication skills and the ability to work both autonomously and within the podiatry team. Effective organisation and time management skills are essential.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

To work as an autonomous practitioner in providing and delivering podiatry assessments and treatment plans to patients presenting with a variety of musculoskeletal conditions

To be responsible for the assessment and diagnosis of new patients with subsequent production and completion of individual care plans which may include the Orthotics, wound management, and provision of appropriate foot health education advice to individuals and groups of patients.

To abide by HCPC and IOCP Codes of Professional Conduct, and work in line with all areas of Core Standards of Practice, FCP competencies and framework

To act independently to assess and provide a clinical diagnosis for individual patients, including those presenting with complex conditions

To identify their need for podiatry intervention; plan, implement, evaluate, and treat to enable patients to reach their full potential.

To be actively involved in the provision of Foot Health Education advice to patients, relatives, and carers.

To be responsible for the referral of patients who require the intervention of other professional and other departmental specialist areas by following agreed departmental referral pathways e.g., into the acute podiatry service or podiatric surgery.

To continually evaluate the effectiveness of interventions in meeting shared goals, and modify the individual patient treatment plan as necessary.

To demonstrate excellence in report writing, and evidence an ability to complete reports autonomously without the need for further support.

To be responsible for own professional development; keeping an up-to-date CPD record in line with FCP/IOCP and HCPC guidelines and evidence these during appraisals

To identify and manage any risks to quality, such as workload, communication, and team working, with the support of your Clinical Lead, and to advise on any issues regarding service delivery.

To communicate effectively with all stakeholders (including patients, clinical colleagues, administrative colleagues, receptionists, and external healthcare professionals etc.)

Effective patient management, and working in collaboration with and/or referring to NHS colleagues in hospital and community settings.

To undertake evidence-based audits and assist in the development of service delivery and own clinical practice
