Job summary
You will be responsible for the management of the MRI service, ensuring efficient use of all available resources and implement demand and capacity management. You will work with the Centre Manager, to develop training and MRI services at the Brighton Diagnostic & Treatment Centre and satellite sites. In the role, you will use your professional discretion and experience to ensure that clinical practice is carried out correctly, professionally and within the legal framework. You will manage the Radiographers working in and rotating through the MRI service and support the other Leads in managing the overall service.
Main duties of the job
The role involves independently performing a wide range of MRI scans on diverse patient groups while adhering to professional, legal, and departmental standards. It includes assessing and justifying referrals, interpreting clinical requirements to select appropriate imaging techniques, and ensuring high-quality diagnostic results. You will workautonomously, sometimes without a radiologist, and may adapt or extend standard protocols based on clinical needs. Responsibilities also include managing daily MRI service operations, optimising workload and appointment scheduling, resolving issues affecting patient flow, and coordinating equipment maintenance to minimise disruption. The role requires regular communication with clinicians regarding scan requests and producing reports on service performance, all while maintaining compliance with professional codes of conduct.

The post holder will be responsible for the management of the MRI service, ensuring efficient use of all available resources and implement demand and capacity management. They will work with the Centre Manager, to develop training and MRI services at the Brighton Diagnostic & Treatment Centre and satellite sites. The post holder will use their professional discretion and experience to ensure that clinical practice is carried out correctly, professionally and within the legal framework. What are the key responsibilities of the role?
- To conduct a wide range of MRI scans upon a range of patient types, both as an autonomous practitioner and as part of a multi professional team, in a manner that meets professional, departmental and legal standards and requirements
- To independently assess and justify referrals following practitioner guidelines where appropriate
- Able to interpret Clinicians requirements, to determine the appropriate radiographic scan technique and ensure that it is performed in accordance with best practice and that the resultant images are diagnostic
- To use discretion to work outside of departmental standards when clinical circumstances necessitate i.e. undertaking additional or specialist techniques
- To undertake MRI scans in the absence of a radiologist according to agreed protocols
- To organise the day-to-day workload through the MRI services ensuring efficient use of all available resources.
- To act as an autonomous radiographer practitioner, meeting the standards set within the Health Professions Councils professional code of conduct
- To identify problems as they arise affecting patient throughput and taking appropriate measures to resolve them
- To liaise with Clinicians about requests for MRI
- To provide monthly and annual reports detailing service progress.
- To oversee the appointments to make best use of scanning time available
- To organise equipment service dates around the workload to keep any disruption to a minimum

- BSc Diagnostic Radiography or DCR Equivalent.
- HCPC registration.
- Cannulation qualification.
- Significant post qualification experience in MRI.
- UK Driving Licence & access to a car

- Experience of dealing with challenging situations.
- Diverse experience of cross sectional imaging.
- Excellentteam working, organisational and leadership skills
