Job summary
Role Purpose
This role is accountable for performing imaging procedures which may include MRI, CT, Xray,
Dexa or Ultrasound, deferring to Lead Radiographer/Centre Manager when required. In
addition, this role guides Radiographers and Radiographic Assistants in their everyday activity.
This role operates with a high degree of professionalism at all times to ensure provision of a
high quality, responsive and patient focused service.
Main duties of the job
Role Responsibilities: Clinical
Undertaking a wide variety of imaging examinations on different makes and models of
equipment acting as a Practitioner as defined within IR(ME)R 2017, requiring an
assessment of each referral and decision on whether to proceed with the examination as
requested, modify or reject it.
To determine and deliver the most appropriate imaging procedures assisting with the
diagnosis and subsequent treatment of a wide range of patients and conditions. This may
lead to discussion and refusal of requests from doctors and emergency nurse practitioners
using the IR(ME)R regulations.
Alongside other Radiographers and Radiographic Assistants, preparing patients for
imaging procedures, explains the procedure and ensures that the patient is comfortable
and properly positioned. Ensuring all referrals are justified and provide advice on protocols if required.
Ensuring patient identification/safety checks are completed prior to imaging examination.
Ensuring consistently high-quality images are produced. Administering contrast media in line with PGD guidance, SOPs & protocols. Assessing all images for quality and clinical significance and escalate urgent findings.
Ensuring all examinations are completed, post-processed and allocated for reporting at the
end of each day. Responsible for own clinical areas with regards to linen change and cleanliness. Supervising junior Radiographers and Radiographic Assistants when required.

Ensures that all safety guidelines are followed in clinical practice. Carries out regular Quality Assurance Tests on equipment.
Be responsible for the safety of patients and other staff. Reports any malfunctions of equipment to a senior person and records relevant
information on the RADAR system.
To comply with the IR (ME)R 2017 regulations and lonising Radiations Regulations
2017. These are aimed at reducing the radiation dose to Patients, Staff and Public.
Ensures all work environments are safe and within guidelines. Maintains own compliance and ensure department staff awareness and compliance
with all legislative and company policies and procedures to include, but not limited to,
CQC, SHE, DSE, Fire, COSHH, Life Support, Safeguarding, Information Security,
Infection Control and Manual Handling.
Maintains high-standards of infection control. Contributes to risk assessments for new and current imaging locations and modalities.
