To lead the MRI team on operational basis, ensuring the department is well organised and has appropriate staffing levels to deliver a professional and comprehensive imaging service.
Maintain a visible presence with patients and staff, fostering an open culture that values high quality care and sound radiology outcomes;
Be a proactive presence in the radiology clinic ensuring patient comfort, care and clinical outcome is always the highest priority.
Carry out radiology examinations as part of normal duties.
Lead and promote the Quality Standard for Imaging (QSI) Accreditation Scheme.
Main duties of the job
CLINICAL:
To be responsible for the day-to-day management of the MRI service, optimising the use of resources and ensuring a safe and effective service.
To support and develop the Imaging team (MRI/cross sectional radiographers, clinical support workers) providing an excellent and responsive diagnostic service and maintaining a high standard of patient care.
Be responsible for the efficient use of resources and manage stock levels and submit orders.
Be responsible for ensuring safe use of equipment, ensures appropriate preventative maintenance and records thereof and identifying and communicating faults in a timely manner.
To have extensive MRI experience, including Cardiac MRI.
Responsible for maintaining and updating protocols in MRI.
To act as MR responsible person, provides continuity and consistency for the ongoing safe working practices of the department. Remain aware of local service developments and changes which may have an impact on the MRI service and/or MRI safety. Ensuring Outpatient, medical, nursing and all other relevant staff groups are educated and trained appropriately, are familiar with MRI Safety and are kept up to date. Ensure records of staff training and competency are maintained.
Works to consistently high standard and adhere to the current MHRA Guidelines (November 2014) and any subsequent updates.
Make autonomous decisions regarding the appropriateness of examinations as an aid to clinical diagnosis, work to a high standard of technique and patient positioning.
Share knowledge and skills with less experienced members of the department.
Perform cannulation and intravenous contrast administration; undertakes appropriate training and assessment and work in accordance with the OSDH.
Uses the Radiology Information System (RIS) for patient registration, ordering and scheduling; run ad hoc activity reports etc., as required.
Use the Picture Archive & Communication System (PACS) to ensure optimum image quality, reviews images and reports.
Aware and adhere to the current Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 (IRR17) and the Ionising (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2018 (IRMER) and any subsequent updates.
