Job summary

ThePrimary Care Business Support Unit [BSU]works in partnership with PICS practices, and external parties, offeringclinical and administrativesupport across a range of functions.The team is expandingto support both immediate operational needs and longer-termstrategic growth.The Senior Health Care Assistantwill workunder direct & indirect supervision from both the Business Support Manager and the Lead Nurse / Deputy Medical Director. The post holder will undertake a range of activities, having been assessed anddeemedcompetent in the activitiesrequired. Delegated tasks and duties will be both clinical and administrative.

  • The role is based at PICS HQ with ad hoc travel to practices/external sitesrequired
  • The postholderwillsupport the BSU by undertaking a range of activities carried out in a flexible& professionalmanner.
  • The rolewillassistclinicians with appointments for clinics/services and research related clinical activity.
  • The postholder will berequiredto ensure theconsent taken by the registered health care professional is still ongoing, prior to any clinical procedure or research activity.
  • There will be a requirement for the administration of intramuscular and subcutaneous injections relating to transgender care, andperformance ofvenepuncture.
  • The rolewill contribute topractice research capacity and enhance health promotion & engagement with patients,byproviding clinical & administrative support in undertaking research studies, both practice and community based.

Main duties of the job

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1.Clinical competencewithin the scope of own practice and training.Competent in completing clinicaldocumentation and use ofSystmone.

2.Responsive to change and willing tocontribute, within the BSU, effective and efficient administrative services bydemonstratingaccuracy and attention to detail in completion of medical records, preparation of written reports / letters and electronic mail.

3.Work as part of the BSU Primary Care research team, to pursue an expansion of its research footprint.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

1.Educated toNVQ Level3Health & Social Care/Care Certificate/ Maths & English

2.Demonstrable experience of workingin aGP practice or secondary care environment

3.Excellentclinical andadministration skills,reliable and effective team worker, responsive to change.

  • Urinalysisusingappropriate equipment, preparingsamples for hospital transportation and analysis ifrequired
  • To perform physiological assessments, asrequired, for recruiting research studieswhich may also include regular follow up.
  • Tomonitorstock and place orders for pathology itemsas required by the BSUand its associatedclinics/services.
  • To measure and record onSystmOnetemplates, physiological signs - alerting a registered practitioner inan appropriate timeframeif physiological signs are outside normal parameters.
  • Blood pressure
  • Pulse rate and rhythm

  • ECGrecording
