Endoscopy Decontamination Technician

Job summary

The post holder will undertake specialised decontamination of flexible endoscopes under the supervision of the Endoscopy Decontamination Supervisor. This will include the collection, receipt, disassembly, cleaning, disinfection, reassembly, packing and delivering of reusable medical endoscopes and recording all activity in the track and trace system. The postholder will work in accordance with the Departments Standard Operating Procedures, Quality Management Systems and National Guidelines. The role will involve working a full rota pattern over 7 days between 8am and 8pm.

Main duties of the job

Re-processing and dispatch of flexible endoscopes to clinical areas is carried out safely and effectively, ensuring all equipment meets required hygiene and performance standards. All reprocessing activities are accurately recorded within a track and trace system to maintain accountability and support audit requirements. Work is performed in strict adherence to the Departments Standard Operating Procedures, Quality Management Systems, and relevant national guidelines. This ensures consistency, patient safety, and regulatory compliance at all times, while supporting the efficient operation of clinical services and maintaining high standards of infection prevention and control across all stages of the decontamination process.

  • NVQ3 or equivalent in Decontamination

  • Experience in a healthcare or decontamination setting

  • Knowledge of infection control, COSHH, and health & safety procedures
