Job summary
We are seeking Pharmacy Counter Assistants to contribute to the provision of a patient focused pharmacy service
To contribute to the development and maintenance of effective and efficient working processes in all retail activities
To contribute to the induction training and development of new retail staff To act as a role model for the other retail staff
To contribute to the development of, maintenance of and adherence to retail Standard Operating Procedures.
To encourage good communication between all pharmacy staff by personal example
Provide advice to patients on the use of medicines and on general health and lifestyle matters within own capability
Receive and give out completed prescriptions under the guidance of the Responsible pharmacist, providing feedback on information provided to or requested by patients
To contribute to ensuring that retail products are stored in appropriate conditions
To contribute to ensuring that procedures are in place for the safe disposal of returned medicines from individuals or households and expired pharmacy stock medications.
To contribute to keeping the main information services and/or reference sources readily available and up to date.
To contribute to ensuring the safe and accurate issue of completed and checked dispensed prescriptions to patients
Main duties of the job
To contribute to safe and secure medicines practice in the retail context.
This includes medicines selection, procurement, storage, preparation, sale and supply and patient education.
To contribute to the maintenance and development of the pharmacy quality management system.
To identify and promptly report to the duty Responsible Pharmacist potential problems in the administration of medicines such as medicine interactions, newly prescribed drugs, physical factors that could affect patient safety, compliance etc
To contribute to the purchase, receipt and storage of all retail medicines and products from approved suppliers used by the company to a stock level set by the Procurement Team and Pharmacy Manager
To contribute to regularly review stock held versus demand in order to achieve a balanced stock holding and to identify in particular products with falling demand and/or short shelf life and regularly report on those to the Pharmacy Manager
To ensure that medicines are handled safely and securely in accordance with retail
To ensure all communication by the post-holder (verbally, electronically, by letter etc) with patients, relatives, carers, prescribers, pharmacists, staff, other health care professionals is of a high standard
To attend regular staff meetings providing and obtaining feedback. Participate actively in any professional development activities within the Trust
