Job summary
We are looking for a Senior Technician to undertake the care and maintenance of a wide variety of medical devices, which may be complex in nature, and be either medical, scientific or laboratory equipment in theatres and endoscopy at KCH.
To train and competency assess members of technical, nursing and medical staff on equipment usage, safety and storage.
To develop and maintain database which shows accurate training records and recertification dates.
Design and deliver training modules with clear training outlines and competency assessment documentation to ensure the safe and effective use of specialised medical equipment used by clinicians, technical staff and support staff.
Provide technical support and advice to healthcare professionals and other staff in the provision of care, prior to and during procedures involving specialised medical devices within theatres and endoscopy.
Main duties of the job
To assist in the management of medical, scientific and laboratory equipment within theatres and endoscopy working with the providers of medical equipment maintenance.
Identify, troubleshoot and resolve problems encountered with equipment, and escalate appropriately where necessary.
Undertake fault finding by the application of suitable techniques; using methods learnt from training courses, manufacturers literature and from colleagues.
Maintain equipment to a high standard, ensuring that it is prepared and ready for clinical use as per documented standard operating procedures. Ensure all medical devices and instrumentation are effectively decontaminated as per Trust Health and Safety procedures and sent for service and repair in an appropriate time frame.
To provide daily maintenance of all point of care testing (POCT) equipment.
This should include both Internal Quality Control checks and External Quality Assessment participation as determined by Trust POCT committee. To calibrate equipment as per company policy, and perform quality control and performance checks as per documented procedures and record as required.
